Childrens Charity Organizations: Poverty And Orphans

It is said that children are the future. In conjunction with this belief, society should be held responsible for contributing to the lives of children and orphans who are left in poverty through charity organizations. The AIDS epidemic alone has left 15 million children orphaned worldwide. It is projected that by the year 2010, 18 million children will be left orphaned in sub-Saharan Africa. Natural disasters in developing countries, such as Central America and Indonesia, also leave many children alone and in poverty. People may think that because the brunt of the damage is on other continents there is nothing that they can do. However, many charity organizations are available for the purpose of helping children and orphans living in poverty. An added benefit is that many of the donations made to charity organizations are tax deductible.

Serving Our World is one of the many charity organizations benefiting children. Serving Our World gives abandoned or orphaned children in the developing countries of Thailand and East Timor an opportunity for a home and an education. They estimate that 10 million children around the world are exploited because of a lack of education and their roots in poverty. Their aim is to give a child the care and skills needed to create a better future. People's donations to charity organizations like Serving Our World, which are tax deductible, help support these children in need of food, shelter, schooling, and family. Contributers can make a monthly donation or a one time donation for $30, $60, $100, or another amount chosen at their discretion.

Feed The Children is among charity organizations that provide more freedom in where donations go. Children in over 100 countries are helped by this charity, including the United States. With the help of donations, Feed The Children caters to those in poverty due to disease, natural disasters, war, and death. A one time donation or monthly contribution is welcome, with a $5 minimum. It costs $8 to feed one child through this organization.

Charity organizations such as World Vision allow donors the ability to choose where the money goes. World Vision advertisements, often seen on television, promise that a child can be fed on $1 a day, and show all the different children the money can provide for. World Visions stands apart from other charity organizations in that it is a Christian humanitarian organization that enables a benefactor to actually choose the child they wish to sponsor. For $30 a month, sponsors can feed the child of their choice. The money goes to supplying food, health care, and an education. Along with other contributors, the money allows the child's community access to clean water and agricultural assistance. This concentration on the community as a whole is not always the case with charity organizations. There is also a general fund for donations to be made at instead of a monthly sum. This one time gift donates to children and families in poverty all around the world.

It may seem hard to help children who are strangers and often continents away, but charity organizations make it possible to provide relief for a child or orphan in poverty. The children's charity organizations mentioned above are just the beginning of many options available for people looking to help a child in need. It is important to look out for children throughout the world, particularly those who do not have parents to do it themselves. Giving back to the community through charity organizations is making an investment for generations to come. It is better to preserve the future now than to have the next generation clean up the mess.
